The Purpose of this Assignment:
For any organisation it is a crucial point to have quality systems in order. In recent times this aspect has got to the point to which a company can lose its leader position due to bad quality reviews. As a matter of fact Samsung mobile lost its top spot in the mobile industry due to this aspect on the battery of its mobile devices. In the below scenario you have to analyse which processes led to this negative impact and suggest some solutions (using tables, figures and charts) to improve the quality and retake the leadership of the mobile sector.

Scenario:
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is a South Korean multinational electronics company headquartered in Suwon, South Korea. Samsung Electronics has in its portfolio products such as LCD and LED panels, mobile phones, semiconductors, televisions, digital cinema, etc.

You are appointed as a Trainee Manager in the head-office of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. in the mobile phones division. As a Trainee Manager you have to work together with the Assistant Manager of the quality department. You are required to look at the past and existing quality management systems and understand what changed as thousands of customers reported a decrease in the quality of the products, with special attention to the battery. The first part of the report will be about you explaining the factors involved in operations management within the company and explain the why it is vital for operations management systems to be effective in order to achieve the given objectives. After that you will have to evaluate the success of operations management in meeting the company's strategic objectives.

After that you will have to identify an area of strategic quality that you feel needs to be improved and then plan the strategic quality change (Please include SMART Targets). After that you have to design the necessary resources, tools and monitoring system to support the strategic quality change of the business processes involved in the quality change process. Finally, to finish this section, you have to evaluate the wider implications of planned strategic quality change in Samsung and this will also mean that you will have to involve assessing how the organization will be perceived from the outside, as well as discussing the knock-on effects of the change to systems, people and functions and their performance within the organization.

At this point you are required to explain how you would implement the change and monitor progress. This will involve a detailed breakdown of time frames, resources and a monitoring and evaluation process. Before you finish this section explain what a quality culture means to the organization and make recommendations to the senior management ton how such a quality culture could be embedded within Samsung.

Finally, as your last task, you need to evaluate the outcomes of the implementation of your strategic quality change and make recommendations on how further improvements can be made.

Finally, you need to report your findings in a professional report format making recommendations for strategic quality changes and implementing a TQM schedule to maintain the quality.

I. Understand the role of operations management in an organisation and the importance of managing quality in Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

2. Design the necessary resources, tools and monitoring system to support the strategic quality change of the business processes involved in the quality change process. These could be associated with the layout and flow of processes, or other aspects of monitoring using IT systems. (3.2, 3.4).

3. Evaluate the wider implications of planned strategic quality change in Samsung this will involve assessing how the organisation will be perceived from outside, as well as discussing the knock-on effects of the change to systems, people and functions, and their performance within the organisation. (3.3).

1. Having identified a suitable area for change, you are now required to explain how you would implement the change and monitor progress. This will involve a detailed breakdown of time frames, resources and a monitoring and evaluation process. (4.1, 4.3).

2. Explain what a quality culture means to the organisation and make recommendations to the senior management on how such a quality culture could be embedded within the Samsung to ensure continuous monitoring and development. (4.2).
