Introduction
As health and social care workers meeting the diverse demands of individuals with specific requirements are a key component to our work in health and social care services. Therefore, it is vital that we understand the ways that services responds to these demands.
There are four (6) formal assessment opportunities for this unit:
Task 1: A report using a case scenario (LO1)
Understand perceptions of health, disability, illness and behaviour Scenario
You are a service worker who is employed at a care home in East London whose client's demands are diverse and also require that their specific needs are met. A family member has contacted your agency to find out if your care home will be a good fit for their father Mr Holland Park who has specific needs.
Your manager has requested that you meet with the family and prepare a report. During the meeting with the family member you must analyseconcepts of health, disability, and illness and behaviour in relation to users of health and social care. Your objective also during the meeting is to reassure the family members by assessingand discussing with them how perceptions about specific needs have changed.
Finally in you meeting you must analyzethe impact of past and present legislations, social policies, society and culture on the ways that services are made available for individuals such as Mr Holland Park. Your manager has asked you to provide her with a report from the meeting and highlight some of what you discussed during the meeting.
Task 2: A report using a case scenario (LO2)
Understand how health and social care services and systems support individuals with specific needs.
Scenario
The family has decided that your care home will fit the needs of their father Mr. Holland Park who is visually impaired, hearing impaired, exhibits challenging behaviour and who is in the early stages of dementia. To further reassure the family members you will help them to understand how your care home and systems will support their father with his specific needs.
In your meeting you should analysethe different care needs that will be given and is available; you should also explaincurrent systems for supporting Mr Holland Park are available to help their father meet his demands and specific needs. Lastly in your discussion, you should evaluatethe local services available to their father to support him and the family.
Task 3: A report using a case scenario (LO3)
Understand approaches and intervention strategies that support individuals with specific needs.
Scenario
As a quality improvement measurement an audit is conducted on your care home. The quality auditor will review Mr. Holland Park file then have a meeting with you. During your meeting with the auditor you must explain the approaches and intervention that was used to support Mr Holland Park's specific needs and those of other service user in your care home.
Secondly, you must evaluatethe effectiveness of intervention strategies used for Mr Holland Park and also to other service users with specific needs. Finally, the auditor is interested to learn about emerging developments in the area of service users with specific needs. Discuss the potential impact of emerging developments for support with specific needs.
Task 4: A report using a case scenario (LO4)
Understand strategies for coping with challenging behaviours associated with specific needs.
Scenario
Foundation for People with Learning and Physical Disabilities publishes a monthly journal. They have requested that you write a feature article for the June publication to create awareness in readers what the strategies are for coping with challenging behaviours associated with specific needs.
In the first section of your article you will explain different concepts of challenging behaviour. The second section of your article you must describethe potential impact of challenging behaviour on health and social care organisations. Finally, in the third section of your article, you must analysestrategies for working with challenging behaviours associated with specific needs.
Task 5: A self-evaluation of the entire report
Write 1 page up to 500 words (A4) self-evaluation of your presentation and entire report.
