UK labour market generally comprises of the people aged in between 16 and 64 with varying number in case of women being 16 to 59. The working class in UK is gradually shrinking as more and more people are getting into studies after the age of 16 and thus there has been a shift in the age from 16 to 18.The labour market or the working force if the UK market is concentrated in the large organizations where there is a requirement of both skilled and unskilled labour in various levels of the organization.

Labour market in manufacturing industry

The industry chosen is the food manufacturing industry in UK. Food manufacturing industry refers to the industry which deals with food productions, processing and thus marketing of food products. The food manufacturing industry includes the agricultural section the fishing industry. The drinks and beverages and thus the entire food production unit of a country is formed. The food industry's not just in UK is effected by the bad results of the statistically studies done in the recent years which states that certain sectors of the industry serves as a very bad experience to the youth of today(Atkinson and Storey, 2016).

The meat industry as well as the fishery industry in some areas of UK provided very bad working conditions previously which increased the turnover rate. The food manufacturing industry in UK is highly reliant on the migrants of EU over the last decade. In the recent years the labour market in UK is projected to shrink as the labour shortage due to BREXIT as well as the due to the fact that a huge number of people i.e. the bay boomers are going to retire in the coming years and this will create a situation of drought in the UK labour market.

The food manufacturing industry along with agricultural industry accounts to about 3.9 million people being the EU migrants.

Skills and competencies required

The skills and competencies required in the chosen food manufacturing industry in UK can be categorized into three sections the generic skills, Personal attributes and the Vocational skills of the individual.

The generic skills can be further classified as the communication skills, interest in the business as well as the skills needed to work as a team. The personal skills required by the labour in the food manufacturing industry in UK can be stated as individual behaviour their ethics and the values they bring in with them in the industry (Enderwick, 2013).

The skills that are most importantly required by those working in the food manufacturing industries are food safety, hygiene, innovation in creation as well as production and other manual skills.
